BSA Scopes
Anyone know where exactly they are made? The company says FL, but aren't these things make in China? Are they okay or junk?
I read the company history, and apparently these were the same folks who made the motorcycles. Wow, wonder where the factory is? |
Re: BSA Scopes
BSA scopes are made in China, as are most low-priced scopes. They are okay for a .22 rifle, but they are heavy.
A Simmons scope might be a better bet. They are owned by Meade, a telescope company. |
Re: BSA Scopes
Ive used/seen used the red dots they ahve on everything from airsoft, to paintball, to bb guns to light caliber rifles. Not sure about higher power rifles though. I've got a couple laying aorund ive been meaning to throw on an SKS or AK to see if itll work.

Re: BSA Scopes
Well I'm looking to put a "decent" scope on a Savage Mark II .22.
I don't want to put a 400 dollar scope on a 300 dollar rifle if you know what I mean. I've got a cheesy Tasco 3x9x40 on it, but the objective is set at 100 yds. I was thinking the BSA Platinum series since it has the AO and all. Folks seem to be raving about it. It's about 120 bucks, but I guess you get what you pay for. |
Re: BSA Scopes
For about $100, I picked up a nice 2-7x Nikon at my local WMart. Nice clear optics, clean lines, affordable price...It's currently sitting atop my wife's Tikka Lite T3 in 223.
BTW, Tascos aren't too bad. AO are handy for dialing in a given distance, but not necessary for a 22, IMO. Just focus the eyepiece lens until clear and you should be fine. |
Re: BSA Scopes
All scopes come out of the same factory in hong kong and get a slightly different name tag, unless they are total junk.
Sorry to say really high end scopes come from the same place too. Just do some DD and be prepared to pay if you want German quality. Most hong kong crap will last 5 years or so. |
Re: BSA Scopes
I'm putting this on an 8mm.
http://www.ncstar.com/store/scripts/...p?idproduct=18 I took it out of the box, and looked through it pretty quick. I think it's a decent scope for 100 bucks. I haven't had a chance to mount it and shoot with it yet. I have some modification to do to the K98 yet. |

Did the fact that the inner part of the scope was visible with the illumination bother you? I had one at the gun show, and just couldn't decide. It looked pretty bright for the price though. |

It probably won't be until spring before I can modify the K98 to take a scope. And you can adjust the illumination, to either nothing, or decently bright. |

Re: BSA Scopes
The kick of a good sized rifle will knock the guts out of 90% of the scopes on the market in a few years, or maybe faster.
The days of a scope staying with a rifle for a generation are over, unless you are willing to pay for it. Thats just my experience with nc star, bsa, tasco, hammers and guide gear. I was a fan until they all had to be replaced.:thumpdown |
Re: BSA Scopes
Anyone use Burris?
Opinions? |
Re: BSA Scopes
Big Burris fan here. Solidly built, bright optics, lifetime guarantee. I own several, mounted on a ARs, Remingtons, Beretta carbine. They advertise their scopes are reinforced for recoil in both directions and are suitable for pellet rifles through magnum centerfire rifles.

The burris seems a nice compromise. http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-f...pe-200453.html And hey, it's tacticoool. |
Re: BSA Scopes
:553: Hmmm...I have a couple excellent BSA scopes I purchased about 5-7 years ago ?,it's been a while.
Still have the original boxes and warranty cards.I dug them out of the closet to check for you guys. Mine are all marked Made in the UK,not China. Keep in mind these early BSA scopes were probably small production runs prior to the present mass market production models now made in Hong Kong. No problems here...the quality is much higher than Tasco or Simmons scopes. I'd say about on par with Burris, which may have produced the early production prototypes for BSA....who knows ? One 3x9 is on a 300 Winchester Mag and another 4x12 is on a 7mm Mag...both are shooting dead on after 5 years of hard hunting. If you can't spring the ching for Nikon go with Burris...excellent optics for the money. :coolbeer::biggrin::coolbeer: |
Re: BSA Scopes
I think Burris has better resolution that Leupold. May not last as long but the clarity is very good.

Re: BSA Scopes
BSA is crap. Spend an extra $50-$100 and get a decent scope, spend an extra $150-$200 and get a scope your grandchildren will be able to use.
Buying a nice firearm and putting a sh!tty scope on it is like achieving blackbelt and being blind. What's the point? |
Re: BSA Scopes
For a rimfire rifle (especially a non-magnum caliber) you may want to consider using an adjustable-objective airgun scope instead. The parallax adjustment range of an airgun scope will be much more useful to the <50-yd shooting that you're most likely to do than most "rimfire" scopes made--including the expensive brands.

Re: BSA Scopes
I just bought a Ziess Conquest with zplex 600
Higher end than some but not in the $600 + catagory. Very bright---edge to edge. good adjustment feel and sound per 1/4" at 100yds. 3x9 not high magnification but more than enough for large targets out to 700yds. Seams very rugged. I have to say for most hunting low power is better and toughness so it stays where its focused. E-A |
Re: BSA Scopes
In the low end I just go to Leapers. I've got one that's about 15 years old-one of the rubber armored 3x9's. It's been on a variety of rifles with no problems. When the time came to dress my Benji Marauder I got one of the new gen side focus units and couldn't be happier for the price. Not really sure about pistol glass....haven't looked into that side of things.
That said, BSA makes me nervous. My only experience with BSA was a red dot unit on a Blackhawk. Game over in one round. Granted, the ballistics weren't mellow but it shoulda held up for at least two rounds. |
Re: BSA Scopes
My advice would be to avoid BSA, NcStar and the like. I speak from hard experience that buying cheap scopes is more expensive in the long run than buying a good one right off the bat. What do you want to do with the scope? Deer hunting, varmint hunting, target shooting?

Re: BSA Scopes
I got a good steamy look at a BSA Sweet 22 up close, and it looked like something you'd get out of a gumball machine. Funny thing is that when you go to Midway and the like they rate relatively high. I guess it's a forgone conclusion at this point, don't skimp.
Oh and +1 on the optics planet. That place is like the Sargasso sea of scopes. |
